Mantras used in a Kundalini Yoga class

When we chant a mantra we are choosing to invoke the positive power contained in those particular syllables. It doesn’t actually matter if we understand the meaning of the sounds or not. Mantras are formulas that alter the patterns of the mind and the chemistry of the brain according to physical and metaphysical laws.

  1. Adi Mantra
Ong namo guru dayv namo (repeated three times)
This mantra is used to tune in before Kundalini yoga classes, to centre us in the higher self and to spiritually guide the teacher and the students during the class.
  2. Mangala Charan Mantra
Aad guray nameh, jugaad guray nameh, sat guray nameh, siri guru dayv-ay nameh (repeated three times)
This mantra opens us to guidance and protection and surrounds the magnetic field with protective light. We chant this after the Adi Mantra
  3. Long Time Sun
May the Long Time Sun Shine upon you All love surround you And the pure light within you Guide your way on
This song has become the blessing used to end Kundalini Yoga classes.
  4. Sat Nam
    Sat Naam (repeated three times)
Sat means truth; the reality of one’s existence, nam means the identity. Chanting this mantra awakens the soul and gives you your destiny. We chant this at the end of the Long Time Sun song at the end of class.
